Gymnastics club in Cheltenham
Build confidence and have fun learning Gymnastics & Movement
I'm Lisa, founder and principal of Happy Days Gym Club.
Having started gymnastics at 11, I quickly fell in love with the sport and went on to gain British Gymnastics teaching qualifications in Pre School, General, Artistic and Judging.
I have always enjoyed working with children and alongside my own gymnastics training I also gained my Diploma in Childcare and Education (formerly known as NNEB). In 1991 an amazing opportunity presented itself when my team and I had the great honour to be selected to represent Great Britain at the World Gymneastrada in Amsterdam. My love of the sport was firmly cemented!
My gymnastics journey then took me to Zimbabwe where I worked with the Zimbabwe Gymnastics Association coaching gymnastics at grass roots level. It was such a formative experience and on my return I decided to make my dream of running a gymnastics club a reality. On the 13th March 1993 our gymnastics club in Cheltenham was launched at Charlton Kings Infant School which, to this day, is still our main venue. We also hold classes at Warden Hill Primary School and Dean Close.
We firmly believe gymnastics is the perfect all-round sport for building physical foundations and confidence for every child. At Happy Days we aim to do this in a fun, friendly and safe environment. We all thoroughly enjoy teaching and coaching and it is our privilege to watch these young people grow in all areas of development and as individuals increase in both confidence and skill ability.
We look forward to welcoming your child.
We have a wide range of recreational gymnastics classes, for children aged from 20 months right up to 13 years. We work in small age ranges and every class is designed to be engaging, challenging and rewarding, developing fundamental areas of gymnastics and movement skills. Children work on strength, coordination, balance, spatial awareness, and self-discipline through age- or ability-appropriate activities. Most of all, at our gymnastics club in Cheltenham each class is fun. We have an extensive variety of equipment based at various venues across Cheltenham.
The Wrigglers Class is a parent and child group designed for 20 months to 3 years, to help introduce children to gymnastics. They will learn all about balancing, jumping, landing, and strength through the use of songs and both small and large apparatus. We create a semi-structured environment where parents are guided in the safe support and age-appropriate activities for their child. There is always time to build those all-important social relationships too.
Bouncing Bugs is a class where children learn independently of parent/carer participation. They will develop movement skills, grip strength, rhythm and movement, and coordination. These classes are a great way of focussing a toddler's endless supply of energy whilst taking place in a safe, supervised environment. The children work in small groups with a coach.
These classes are suitable for all school-age children and are split into small age ranges which allows us to move children between groups depending on ability. Classes are challenging but non-competitive although we respect that some children show greater ability and we accommodate this though select rec groups. A typical class will focus on building strength, flexibility, stamina, and spatial awareness using gymnastic apparatus such as floor, bars, bean, vault and airtracks. All children start in general classes although we do have a Select Rec class which is by invitation only for those considered by the coach ready to develop more advanced skills.
At our gymnastics club in Cheltenham, we run 4 Gym Terms throughout the year, which vary in duration. Membership is on a pre-booked termly basis.
Happy Days Gym is a fantastic introduction to the world of gymnastics for toddlers. Up until around the age of 3 a ‘grown-up’ takes part in the class too and we are not sure who enjoys it the most!! Each session is structured but fun and helps develop social interaction as well as promoting confidence, physical fitness, rhythm and the basic gymnastic moves which evolve as the child grows.
My daughter has been coming to Happy Days, since she was a baby and still continues to love it! She has grown with Club as well as personally in more ways than one and we all love the family environment that Lisa offers.
My Granddaughter absolutely loves going to her gym class and always has so much fun. It has developed her co-ordination and confidence with the climbing and physical activity. Each week Lisa has different warm up activities which keep the classes fresh and interesting as well as the set tasks on other equipment which the children learn to approach in different ways. We always have a cheerful enthusiastic welcome and the staff show genuine interest in the children as individuals.
